Dear Parents and Carers,

Re: Mental Health Awareness Day – Wear Yellow on 10th October

We are writing to let you know that on Thursday, 10th October, our school will be taking part in Mental Health Awareness Day. This is an important opportunity to highlight the importance of mental health and well-being in our school community, and we are encouraging all students and staff to show their support by wearing something yellow on the day.

Mental health plays a key role in our children’s overall happiness and success, and we believe it’s essential to help students understand how to take care of their emotional well-being. Throughout the day, students will engage in discussions and activities to promote positive mental health, raise awareness about available support, and reduce the stigma around mental health issues.

How You Can Support the Day:

Wear Yellow: Please encourage your child to wear a yellow item of clothing—this could be a T-shirt, scarf, or even a small accessory like a hairband or wristband. Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for the school day.

Mental Health Conversations: This day provides an excellent chance to talk to your child about mental health and emotional well-being. Simple check-ins can help them feel more comfortable sharing their feelings.

Useful Resources: As part of our commitment to mental health, we also want to signpost some valuable resources for further support:

  • YoungMinds: Offers advice and support for young people and parents around mental health. Visit their website at www.youngminds.org.uk or call their Parent Helpline at 0808 802 5544.
  • NSPCC: Provides resources and support for children’s well-being and safety. Learn more at www.nspcc.org.uk or contact their helpline at 0808 800 5000.
  • Kooth: An online mental health and well-being platform that offers free, anonymous support for young people through chats and forums. Find out more at www.kooth.com.

If your child is experiencing difficulties with their mental health, or if you have concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our pastoral team. We are here to provide support and guidance to ensure that every student feels safe, valued, and understood.

Thank you for your continued support in promoting positive mental health. Let’s work together to make this Mental Health Awareness Day an impactful and meaningful experience for everyone.

Yours sincerely,

Vic O’Farrell
