Dear Parents/Carers,
We are excited to announce that Educational Diversity will be celebrating World Book Day on
Thursday 6th March. This is an annual event celebrated worldwide to promote the joy of reading
and to inspire children to explore the wonderful world of literature. For further information and
resources, have a look at the World Book Day website: https://www.worldbookday.com/families/
To commemorate this special day, alongside our usual daily reading throughout the school day, we
have planned a series of engaging activities and events for our students:
1. Dress as a WORD: Staff and students are encouraged to come dressed in a way that
represents a word of their choice. You might choose to come dressed as the word
‘nocturnal’ and arrive head-to-toe in black or even in your comfiest clothes and so be the
word ‘relax’! Reading is brilliant no matter how you are dressed so whether it’s in your
brightest top and you’re the word ‘illuminate’ or dressed up in sportswear as the word
‘competitive’, let’s celebrate our love of literature on Thursday 6th March.
2. Whole School Quiz: We will be organising a whole school quiz for all students to enter with
books and treats to be won! This not only encourages reading but also fosters a sense of
community amongst our students.
3. Golden Tickets: Around school there will be Willy Wonka style golden tickets hidden. Find a
lucky ticket, answer the literary question on the back of it and you will be awarded a prize!
4. Book Tokens: All students will bring home a World Book Day token which can be
exchanged for a FREE book at several retailers. These include: Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys,
The Works, Waterstones and WHSmith.
We encourage you to join in the celebrations by discussing the importance of reading with your
child and perhaps even sharing your favourite childhood books with them. Your support in fostering
a love for reading is invaluable and greatly appreciated.
We all know how important reading is to our lives as it not only increases vocabulary, improves
concentration levels and helps us to become better communicators, it also reduces stress and
improves grades. Take the World Book Day pledge and commit to reading just 20 minutes per day
with your child(ren) and feel the benefits!
Warm regards,
Vic O’Farrell
